Ange Postecoglou appointed Al-Nassr head coach, to manage Cristiano Ronaldo
Postecoglou lands Al-Nassr job, will coach Ronaldo

Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new head coach of Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, signing a two-year contract to manage a squad led by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Australian manager aims to revive his career after two difficult stints in the Premier League.

Official announcement and contract details

Al-Nassr confirmed the appointment in a statement: “A new chapter. Mr Ange Postecoglou appointed as head coach of the Al-Nassr first team. The contract spans two seasons. We wish him and his staff every success in their journey.” The club won the Saudi Pro League title on the final day of the season in May under previous manager Jorge Jesus, who stepped down after the triumph.

Postecoglou's recent struggles

Postecoglou, 60, previously managed Tottenham Hotspur, guiding them to Europa League glory in 2025, but was sacked two weeks later after the club finished 17th in the Premier League. His subsequent tenure at Nottingham Forest in the 2025-26 season lasted just 40 days, ending winless in his opening eight games, which included six defeats.

Previous success and international links

Before his Premier League stints, Postecoglou led Celtic to two Scottish Premiership titles and won league titles with Brisbane Roar in Australia and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan. He also managed the Australia men's national team from 2013 to 2017. After leaving Forest, he was linked with the Scotland job following Steve Clarke's resignation after the World Cup, as well as Kazakhstan, but media reports indicated his wage demands were too high for the central Asian side.

Al-Nassr's star-studded squad

Postecoglou takes over a team featuring Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who played a key role in securing the league title. The Australian will be tasked with maintaining the club's domestic dominance and potentially competing in Asian competitions.
