Binding of Isaac Re-Release Launches Same Day as GTA 6

Indie developer Nicalis has announced that The Binding of Isaac: Repentance + Online will launch on November 19, 2025, the same day as Rockstar Games' highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. The standalone re-release brings the full game, all expansions, and online co-op for up to four players to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

What the Re-Release Includes

According to a teaser trailer released on YouTube, the new version bundles the complete Binding of Isaac experience, including the 2011 original, the 2014 Rebirth remake, and all subsequent expansions like Repentance+. The key addition is online multiplayer, which previously remained exclusive to the PC version after its 2024 debut. The video description confirms the package supports up to four players in online co-op.

Only the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be available physically; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners must purchase the game digitally. This means existing console owners of The Binding of Isaac will need to buy the new release separately to access the online features.

Why Release on the Same Day as GTA 6?

While many publishers have avoided the November 2025 window due to GTA 6's dominance, Nicalis appears undeterred. Indie developer Tomas Salas, creator of the shipbuilding game Shipshape, told GamesIndustry.biz that indie titles should not fear GTA 6. 'It has its own f***ing audience that doesn’t go around buying nerdy niche sailing games or nerdy puzzle games or tiny story-driven emotional deckbuilders. They just want to play GTA,' he said.

The move is seen as a publicity strategy, as the contrast between the two games could draw attention to The Binding of Isaac. Nicalis has not commented on the decision, but the release date positions the indie title as a bold alternative to Rockstar's blockbuster.

Impact on the Gaming Calendar

The autumn 2025 release schedule is crowded, with major publishers largely avoiding November due to GTA 6. Notable exceptions include a collection of retro Barbie games and a Switch 2 port of Metaphor: ReFantazio. Devolver Digital has repeatedly promised to launch a game on the same day as GTA 6 but has yet to announce a title.

Speculation also surrounds a potential The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2, which some analysts believe could launch in November. Nintendo has revealed only a brief teaser of the game as of mid-August 2025.
