Woman suffers 'life-changing injuries' after exiting moving car in Dagenham police chase

A woman in her 30s has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after exiting a moving car during a police chase in Dagenham. Officers pursued a suspect vehicle seen driving at high speed near Redbridge Roundabout for nearly 15 minutes in the early hours of Thursday, May 21.

The female passenger tumbled from the vehicle at the junction of New Road and Ballards Road shortly before 1.55am. She was taken to a major trauma centre by the London Ambulance Service.

The driver continued on for two more miles before coming to a stop on Victory Road, a residential street at the edge of Ingrebourne Hill. He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving and failing to stop for police. He remains in custody pending further enquiries, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police sealed off New Road in both directions between Heathway and Thames Avenue for several hours whilst the scene was secured. The London Ambulance Service said: 'We were called at 1.54am today (Thurs 21 May) to reports of a road traffic collision in Ballards Road, Dagenham. We sent resources including ambulance crews, a clinical team manager, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance. We treated a woman at the scene before taking her to a London major trauma centre.'

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 502/21MAY. Those who witnessed any section of the chase or has dash cam footage is asked to come forward.
