Tom Hardy's role in the crime thriller MobLand hangs in the balance after reported 'shocking' on-set behavior, according to insiders. The 48-year-old actor, who leads the cast as fixer Harry Da Souza for the Harrigan crime family, may not return for a potential third season.
Reported On-Set Issues
Claims emerged last week that Hardy had a disagreement with producers, leading to speculation he was axed. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that during season two, 'he refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time,' keeping cast members including Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Joanne Froggatt waiting. One insider called this 'career suicide.'
This behavior aligns with past reports from the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, where director George Miller noted Hardy 'had to be coaxed out of his trailer' while co-star Charlize Theron was always first on set.
Production Details
MobLand premiered in March 2025 on Paramount Plus, with Hardy starring alongside Brosnan, Froggatt, Dame Helen Mirren, and Paddy Considine. Season two is expected later this year. A third season, if greenlit, would aim to begin filming in September.
According to the Puck newsletter, Paramount opted not to pick up Hardy's option for season three after clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. The report stated Hardy was 'late to set a bunch, constantly asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed displeasure that the series was becoming an ensemble showcase.'
At one point, Butterworth allegedly threatened to quit, leading Paramount to relieve Hardy of his role. However, insiders now say his 'fate is yet to be decided,' as the mutual option in his contract could allow him to exit voluntarily.
Fan Reaction
Following the reports, many fans vowed to stop watching if Hardy is not in season three. Social media reactions included: 'Well the show's over then, he was literally the face of it' and 'He IS the show. Might as well cancel it outright.' Some speculated whether the character would be recast or killed off.
Previous Statements
In an April 2025 interview, Hardy expressed optimism about the show's future, saying 'The plan is definitely to see more seasons.' Director Guy Ritchie also praised Hardy as 'the right guy for the job.' Representatives for Hardy and Paramount declined to comment.
MobLand marked the first collaboration between Hardy and Ritchie in 17 years. The series has been a hit for Paramount Plus, but its future remains uncertain without its leading man.
