A local textile company has announced plans to revitalise Weiqiao Town, a historic area known for its textile industry. The initiative aims to boost the local economy and preserve cultural heritage, according to company officials.
Investment Details
The company will invest 500 million yuan (approximately £55 million) over the next five years. The funds will be used to renovate old textile factories, create a museum, and develop tourism infrastructure. The project is expected to create 2,000 jobs.
Community Impact
Local residents have welcomed the plan. 'This is a lifeline for our town,' said Li Wei, a shop owner. 'Many young people left for jobs elsewhere. Now they might come back.' The revitalisation also includes training programmes for traditional weaving techniques.
Preserving Heritage
The company will restore historic buildings and establish a cultural centre. 'We want to honour the town's textile legacy while creating a sustainable future,' said Wang Fang, company spokesperson. The museum will display antique looms and fabrics dating back to the Ming dynasty.
Timeline
Construction is set to begin in early 2024, with the first phase completed by 2026. The entire project is expected to finish by 2028. The local government has pledged support, including tax incentives and infrastructure upgrades.
