The world's largest cruise ship is set to launch this summer, boasting a Broadway show, 28 restaurants, and the largest waterpark ever built at sea. Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas will make its debut on July 4, 2026, after two years of construction in Finland. The vessel will journey from Turku to Cadiz, Spain, for final touches before embarking on voyages from Rome and Barcelona.
Onboard Attractions
The ship features Category 6, the biggest waterpark on any ship, with six slides and seven pools, including a swim-up bar. The Frightening Bolt is the tallest waterslide at sea. For thrill-seekers, the Crown's Edge obstacle course offers ocean views, while the FlowRider surf simulator provides wave-riding experiences. Absolute Zero, the world's largest ice skating arena at sea, and a 20.4-square-metre screen on the pool deck for live sports and movies are also highlights.
Pricing and Itineraries
Passengers can choose seven-night packages from Barcelona starting at £1,176 per person or from Rome at £1,203. Both itineraries visit Palma de Mallorca, Provence, Florence, and Naples. A Spanish transatlantic cruise from Barcelona on October 31, 2027, costs from £1,115 for 13 nights, ending in Florida. In November, the ship will offer Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale.
Future of Cruising
Meanwhile, the world's first 'city at sea,' Freedom Ship, could soon set sail. Measuring over a mile long and 800 feet wide, it will accommodate 80,000 passengers, including 50,000 permanent residents, and circumnavigate the globe every two years. Plans include schools, banks, offices, and a research hospital, with discussions about hosting a Taylor Swift concert.
