Amid rumours of Resident Evil Requiem’s DLC not launching till next year, a Capcom producer has hinted at a deeper connection between it and the Code: Veronica remake. The big opening announcement of Summer Game Fest was the Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake, now simply titled Resident Evil Veronica. While this remake had been heavily rumoured for ages, it was a bit of a surprise to see it announced so early, as you might think Capcom would first want to wait until it had wrapped up support for Resident Evil Requiem, which is still due to receive story DLC.
If a new rumour is to be believed, Requiem’s DLC is much further out than expected and won’t release until after the Veronica remake, but there may be unexpected reasons for why that’s the case. This is according to regular Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem on X, who claimed a Code: Veronica remake was in the works back in 2024 and insists there are plans for a Resident Evil Zero remake too. Dusk Golem doesn’t provide any sort of release window, but says there are murmurs of it being ‘further out,’ which could point to it not arriving till late 2027. Requiem launched in February so it’ll likely be a year old by the time the DLC comes out.
At first, this seems slightly strange, but there may be more to it than the DLC simply not being finished yet, as it’s been stated that the Veronica remake will have some sort of connection to the plot of Requiem. This isn’t a rumour either, but something suggested by producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi during a Q&A session, as reported by GameSpot. He didn’t go into too much detail, but Hirabayashi reportedly said there’s a throughline from Requiem to Veronica. Anyone that’s got the end of Requiem might be able to guess what the connection involves, but we can’t mention it here as it’s a spoiler.
As a reminder, Code: Veronica is not a spin-off and was actually meant to be the real Resident Evil 3. The game about Jill Valentine in Raccoon City, meanwhile, was the actual spin-off. This is why Code: Veronica has a lot more integral plot details for the series’ overarching storyline than Resident Evil 3, including the return of the superpowered Wesker, who was believed to have died in Resident Evil 1.
There are a number of plot details Requiem has left unexplored, such as what the ‘objective’ that was found in the game’s post-credits scene is and the continued involvement of The Connections, a criminal organisation introduced in Resident Evil 7: biohazard and which was responsible for the fall of Umbrella. At the very least, Requiem’s DLC should be pretty meaty as it’s also been rumoured that there are two story expansions: one focused on Requiem’s co-protagonist Leon and Alyssa Ashcroft (mother of Grace, Requiem’s other protagonist) and another starring series regulars Chris Redfield and Ada Wong.
If we had to guess, the Leon/Alyssa story would have to be a prequel since Alyssa dies at the start of Requiem, but it’s a game about zombies so who knows. The Chris/Ada team-up, however, could link back to the Veronica remake, especially since Chris is one of the protagonists of Code: Veronica.
