Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is prepared to depart the club this summer after just one season, with manager Mikel Arteta already identifying a potential replacement. The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Chelsea last summer for £5 million to serve as David Raya's understudy.
Limited Appearances but Key Contributions
Kepa made only one Premier League appearance during Arsenal's title-winning campaign, coming on the final day against Crystal Palace. However, he started every match in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, totaling 12 appearances across all competitions. Arteta previously praised the Spaniard's professionalism and quality.
According to Sky Sports, Kepa is open to moving on this summer in pursuit of a new challenge. While he is in no rush to leave, he will consider any suitable offers that benefit both him and his family.
Potential Replacement Identified
Should Kepa depart, Arsenal will need a reliable number two goalkeeper. The club holds 'strong interest' in Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier. The Frenchman lost his starting spot at Leeds last season and is out of contract this summer, making him available on a free transfer.
Arteta's Summer Transfer Plans
Arteta aims to make at least four signings this summer, targeting reinforcements at right-back, central midfield, left wing, and up front. Departures from the title-winning squad are also expected. Leandro Trossard has received a bid from Turkish side Besiktas, while Gabriel Jesus hinted his future could be in Italy.
Speaking to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Jesus said: 'I grew up watching Serie A and dreamed of playing in Italy. Scoring two goals at San Siro against Inter was like making that dream come true. I don't know my future, I'm working now and we'll see what happens with Arsenal.'
