Brentford FC plans music concerts at Gtech Community Stadium

Brentford Football Club has announced plans to host live music concerts at the Gtech Community Stadium in west London for the first time. The proposal, currently in early stages, would allow up to six gigs per year during weekends in June and July, between football seasons, with a capacity of 24,000 people and an 11pm curfew.

Stadium use and infrastructure

The club states that no permanent structural changes are needed. Temporary staging and sound equipment would be installed and removed for each event, utilising the existing stadium facilities. This approach mirrors how other London football venues have expanded into entertainment.

Community consultation and planning process

A Community Engagement Group meeting and consultation were held earlier this month for local residents to provide input. Brentford FC has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment Screening and Scoping Report to Hounslow Council ahead of a full planning application. Sally Stephens, fan and community relations director at Brentford FC, said: 'Any concerts would be subject to clear controls, practical mitigation measures, strict limits and curfews secured through the planning process, as is the case for matchdays at the stadium.'

Comparison with other London stadiums

Several London football stadiums already host major concerts. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has featured Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Bad Bunny. Arsenal's Emirates Stadium has hosted Coldplay and Boyzone. West Ham's London Stadium has presented Take That, Foo Fighters, and Iron Maiden. Brentford aims to join this trend.

Potential challenges and local opposition

Approval may face hurdles due to recent local opposition to festival plans at nearby Gunnersbury Park. Waterworks Festival and Annie Mac's Before Midnight event were scheduled for September but faced delays from public complaints about noise, crowds, traffic, and antisocial behaviour. Both events had to relocate, and a decision on that application is still pending.
