London Underground closures this weekend: Full list of affected lines

Londoners are being urged to check before they travel this weekend as multiple Tube lines face partial closures. The Piccadilly line is closed between Hyde Park Corner and Acton Town from 1.30am on Saturday, September 19, through to the end of Sunday, September 20, affecting Night Tube services tonight. Passengers heading to Heathrow Airport may want to rely on the Elizabeth line, which is expected to run smoothly over the weekend.

The District line, DLR, and London Overground are also experiencing disruption. The Waterloo & City line is closed for the entire weekend, as is customary.

Saturday, September 19: Key closures and engineering works

On Saturday, several lines across the London Underground are undergoing planned engineering and upgrade works. The District line has no service between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway, and between Earl’s Court and Richmond. The Piccadilly line closure between Hyde Park Corner and Acton Town began at 1.30am and will continue until the end of Sunday.

The DLR faces multiple closures today, including between Lewisham and Stratford/Bank, Canning Town and Tower Gateway/Bank, and Stratford and Canary Wharf. The London Overground's Weaver line has no service between Hackney Downs and Cheshunt/Enfield, and the Windrush line between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction is closed from 11.30pm Saturday night, with trains diverted to or from Battersea Park for connections to Clapham Junction.

Why does the Piccadilly line keep shutting?

If you rely on the Piccadilly line, you may have noticed frequent closures over the last few months. Transport for London (TfL) is preparing the line for its new fleet of trains, which will feature walk-through carriages, air-conditioning, wider doors, and more. The line, which sees 158,000,000 trips annually, will face disruption on several dates through to late November 2026.

Upcoming Piccadilly line closures include: September 25 (no service between Cockfosters and Acton Town), September 26-27 (no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge), October 16-18 (no service between Hammersmith and Heathrow and Uxbridge), October 28-30 (no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge), October 30-November 1 (no service on the entire line), and November 20-22 (no service between Hammersmith and Heathrow and Uxbridge).

Sunday, September 20: Continued disruptions and additional closures

On Sunday, the District line continues with no service between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway and Richmond. The Piccadilly line closure between Hyde Park Corner and Acton Town remains in effect. The Waterloo & City line is closed for the weekend.

The London Overground's Lioness line has no service between Willesden Junction and Watford Junction until 4.15pm. The Weaver line between Hackney Downs and Cheshunt/Enfield Town has no service. The Windrush line has no service between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction, with trains diverted to and from Battersea Park, and is also closed between West Croydon and Sydenham until 8am. The DLR closures from Saturday continue on Sunday.

Passengers are advised to check before they travel, as engineering works are taking place across the network this weekend.
