"I think Amorim has got to invest in the young players and bring some fresh talent through," Yorke stated. "If you're gonna bring in a makeshift option as cover, we've seen United do that in the past and it hasn't worked. It's just too big of a club for bringing in a player that's not the right fit."
Yorke, who won the treble with United in 1999, drew on the club's rich history of promoting academy talent. He emphasised that the development system exists for precisely this kind of scenario, arguing that Obi deserves his chance to prove his worth on the big stage.
Who is Chido Obi?
For those less familiar with the name, Chido Obi is a 17-year-old Danish U21 international who joined Manchester United in September 2024. In a move that raised eyebrows, he was signed directly from Arsenal's famed Hale End academy, swapping the Emirates for Old Trafford.
His first-team experience, however, remains limited. To date, Obi has made eight appearances for the senior side but is yet to open his goalscoring account. A potential start in the coming weeks would represent a massive leap in his young career and a huge show of faith from manager Ruben Amorim.
Yorke concluded with a clear message to the new boss: "I would like to see Chido Obi put in if Sesko is out. If you're good enough to be at United, you've got to give them a chance. History has shown that this is a club where young players get that chance to stand in and step up." The ball is now in Amorim's court.
