Mohamed Salah launches explosive attack on Liverpool over bench role
Salah: Liverpool have 'thrown me under the bus'

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has delivered a stunning public rebuke of the club, accusing them of breaking promises and "throwing him under the bus" after being left on the bench for their recent Premier League clash.

A Scathing Verdict from the Bench

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward was an unused substitute during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday night. Following the match, Salah unleashed a torrent of frustration, revealing a fractured relationship with manager Arne Slot and suggesting his future at Anfield is in serious doubt.

Salah, who signed a new two-year contract in April 2025 before winning his second Premier League title with the Reds, expressed profound disappointment. "I couldn't believe it. I'm sitting on the bench for 90 minutes," he said. "I think it's the third time on the bench, I think it's the first time in my career. I'm very, very disappointed, to be fair."

Broken Promises and a Damaged Relationship

The prolific attacker insisted his treatment feels like a betrayal, stating: "Sitting on the bench, I don't know why, it seems the club are throwing me under the bus, that's how it feels. It's very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame."

He went further, alleging the club had reneged on assurances given to him. "The club promised me in the summer a lot of promises and nothing so far and I'm on the bench for three games, so I can say they don't keep their promises," Salah claimed.

Perhaps most damningly, he revealed his once-positive dynamic with head coach Arne Slot has completely collapsed. "I said many times before I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don't have any relationship. I don't know why," Salah explained. "It seems to me someone doesn't want me in the club. I love the club so much."

January Exit Looms as Legacy Questioned

When directly questioned about a potential departure when the transfer window reopens, Salah's response was ominous. "In football you never know but I don't accept this situation," he stated.

He passionately defended his record, reminding everyone of his immense contribution since arriving in England. "I've been in this club scoring more than anyone in this generation," Salah asserted. "I would say since I came to the Premier League, I don't think anybody scored more goals than me or assisted more in the whole Premier League."

He contrasted his situation with the support other elite players receive, citing Harry Kane as an example. "I remembered a while ago Harry Kane was not scoring for I think 10 games... Everyone in the media was like, 'Oh, Harry will score for sure.' When it comes to Mo, he need to be on the bench."

Salah indicated he had held a clear-the-air meeting with Slot, but the outcome has left him believing his long-term plan for the club is over. "I thought I'm going to renew here and end my career here but this is not according to the plan," he concluded, signalling a potentially bitter and abrupt end to his legendary Liverpool career.
