Pochettino Praises Pulisic's Leadership in USMNT Camp

Mauricio Pochettino has heaped praise on Christian Pulisic, describing the AC Milan forward as a natural leader within the United States men's national team setup. Speaking ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers, the USMNT head coach highlighted Pulisic's influence both on and off the pitch.

Pochettino's High Regard for Pulisic

Pochettino, who took charge of the USMNT in 2024, has been impressed by Pulisic's professionalism and dedication. "Christian is not just a talented player; he is a leader. He understands the responsibility of wearing the captain's armband and sets an example for the younger players," Pochettino said during a press conference at the team's training camp in Orlando, Florida.

The Argentine manager emphasized that Pulisic's experience at top European clubs, including Chelsea and AC Milan, has been invaluable. "He has played in the biggest games, under immense pressure. That experience rubs off on the group," Pochettino added.

Pulisic's Role in the Squad

Pulisic, 27, has earned over 70 caps for the USMNT and has been a key figure since his debut in 2016. His leadership has been particularly crucial as the team integrates new talents like Folarin Balogun and Gio Reyna. "Christian helps them settle, advises them on and off the field. That's what leaders do," Pochettino noted.

The USMNT is preparing for a double-header against Mexico and Costa Rica in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. With the team aiming to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, which the United States will co-host, Pochettino stressed the importance of unity. "We need everyone pulling in the same direction. Christian embodies that spirit," he said.

Pulisic's Response

Pulisic, who has often been the focal point of the USMNT's attack, responded humbly to the praise. "It's an honor to lead this team. We have a great group of players and staff, and I'm just trying to do my part," Pulisic said. He also acknowledged the weight of expectations. "We know what's at stake. The fans expect a lot, and we want to deliver."

The forward has been in fine form for AC Milan this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions. His performances have drawn plaudits from across Europe, but Pochettino believes his best is yet to come. "He is still growing as a player and a leader. I'm excited to see him lead this team to success," Pochettino concluded.
