Man Utd Boost as 'Irreplaceable' Paqueta Suspended for West Ham Clash
Paqueta suspended for Man Utd vs West Ham

Manchester United have received a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash with West Ham United after the Hammers' key midfielder Lucas Paqueta was sent off against Liverpool.

Red Card Ends Unbeaten Run

The pivotal moment occurred during West Ham's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday. After Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool in the 60th minute, West Ham's hopes of a comeback were dashed when Paqueta received two yellow cards for dissent.

The Brazilian playmaker had only just returned to the starting lineup after serving a suspension for accumulating five yellow cards against AFC Bournemouth. His first booking against Liverpool came in the 83rd minute for arguing with referee Darren England.

Despite intervention from teammates Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes, plus Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, Paqueta continued his protests and received a second yellow card, reducing West Ham to ten men. Cody Gakpo sealed Liverpool's victory with a second goal in injury time.

Nuno's 'Irreplaceable' Star Sidelined

The suspension comes as a significant blow to West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who recently described Paqueta as 'irreplaceable' amid speculation about a potential January transfer. Speaking about the Brazilian's importance to the team, Nuno stated: "We cannot, it's impossible to replace a player like Lucas, we have to be aware what he means for us, what he gives us, his talent, fantastic player so... irreplaceable."

Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison didn't hold back in his criticism of Paqueta's actions during BBC Radio 5 Live coverage, calling it 'stupidity' that left his team down to ten men.

Manchester United Await Depleted West Ham

The timing couldn't be worse for West Ham, who travel to Old Trafford on Thursday night needing a response after their defeat ended a three-match unbeaten run. Manchester United will be looking to build momentum after their comeback victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

This marks Paqueta's third career red card and his first since joining West Ham. The influential midfielder will be eligible to return for West Ham's trip to Brighton on Sunday, December 7.
