Manchester United Enter Transfer Battle for Greek Prodigy
Manchester United have discovered the financial commitment required to secure Olympiacos's rising star Christos Mouzakitis, but they are preparing for a significant bidding war against several European giants. The 18-year-old central midfielder has emerged as one of football's most sought-after talents following his remarkable breakthrough in Greece.
The Meteoric Rise of a Wonderkid
Mouzakitis exploded into the Olympiacos first team during the previous campaign, making an immediate impact with 36 appearances across all competitions. His development has continued unabated this season, featuring 13 times already while gaining valuable Champions League experience. The teenager's performances haven't gone unnoticed on the international stage either, having already earned seven caps for the Greek national team, positioning him as a future cornerstone for his country.
His composure and maturity in midfield have attracted widespread attention across Europe's top leagues. According to The Sun, both Manchester United and Brighton are considering January moves for the talented youngster. However, they face formidable competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan, all monitoring the situation closely.
Olympiacos Hold Strong Negotiating Position
The Greek champions have set a substantial asking price of £40 million for their prized asset, though this figure is expected to increase as interest intensifies and Mouzakitis continues to impress. Olympiacos maintain a strong negotiating position with the player's contract running until 2029, eliminating any pressure for a quick sale.
Olympiacos sporting director Darko Kovacevic emphasised this stance back in March, stating: 'There is growing interest in him, but he is an Olympiacos player. He will stay at Olympiacos for sure this season, and I hope for longer.'
The midfielder's credentials were further enhanced this month when he won the prestigious Golden Boy Web award for 2025, a public vote organised by Italian publication Tuttosport to crown Europe's best Under-21 player. He follows in the footsteps of previous winners including Jude Bellingham, Kenan Yildiz, and Nicola Zalewski.
Mouzakitis enjoyed a trophy-laden debut season, winning both the Greek Super League and Greek Cup while earning individual recognition as Young Player of the Season and a place in the division's Team of the Season. His manager Jose Luis Mendilibar has previously praised his exceptional work ethic, noting after a crucial goal against Levadiakos in February: 'He works hard, just like all the players do. But beyond effort, he has got the talent and quality that help him even more.'
