Kansas City to Enhance Security for England's 2026 World Cup Training Camp
Kansas City officials have announced plans to implement additional security measures, including fencing and road closures, to safeguard England's training base during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The England national football team will be stationed in Kansas City, Missouri, throughout the tournament, utilizing the $20 million Swope Soccer Village facility situated within a public park.
Security Measures and Public Access
According to Pam Kramer, CEO of the local organizing committee KC2026, while some training sessions may be opened to the community, strict access controls will be enforced for the remainder of England's stay. "There are some fencing considerations that are being put into place there. There are some traffic control measures," Kramer stated in an interview with City AM. She emphasized that the park's vast size provides natural separation, but security remains a top priority.
Kramer highlighted the extensive security planning, involving nearly 400 personnel from local, state, federal, and international agencies over the past two and a half years. The efforts are organized around 18 key areas, ranging from police escorts for teams and dignitaries to managing the FIFA fan festival.
Why Kansas City Was Chosen
The Football Association selected Kansas City as England's base due to its central location, which facilitates easier travel to all other host venues across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Despite not hosting any England matches, the city's strategic position and robust infrastructure made it an ideal choice.
KC2026's budget, exceeding $100 million and funded through federal, state, and private sources, has enabled proactive security planning without the delays faced by other organizing committees. "Safety and security is our first, second and third priority, and the federal funding was critical," Kramer added. "While that was going on, planning continued. It is a complex, coordinated effort."
