A Charlton Athletic supporter has tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during the club's home match against Portsmouth on Saturday, 6th December 2025.

Match Halted in the 12th Minute

The EFL Championship fixture at The Valley was stopped in the 12th minute after the fan fell seriously ill. Emergency treatment was administered at the scene before the individual was taken to hospital. The match, which had kicked off at lunchtime, was subsequently postponed with the score at 0-0.

Club Issues Heartfelt Statement

Charlton Athletic FC released a statement confirming the devastating news. A club spokesman said they were "devastated to report" the supporter's death and extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The statement praised the swift actions of club staff and first responders who "did everything they could." It also expressed gratitude to the attending supporters and the Portsmouth players and staff for their patience and understanding as the tragic situation unfolded.

Charlton Athletic captain Greg Docherty posted his condolences on social media platform X, writing: "Absolutely devastating news… from all of the players at the club our thoughts are with his family and friends through this extremely difficult time."

Rivals Portsmouth FC also responded, stating the club was "devastated" by the news and offering their thoughts and deepest condolences.
