Arsenal's £38m Star Jurrien Timber Hailed as 'One of the Very Best'
Arsenal's Jurrien Timber Hailed as 'One of the Very Best'

Former Arsenal defender Lauren has heaped praise on Gunners star Jurrien Timber, labelling the Dutch defender as 'one of the very best' following his outstanding performances this season.

From Injury Setback to Key Performer

Arsenal secured Timber's signature from Ajax in 2023 for a fee of approximately £38 million. His debut season in North London was cruelly cut short, however, by a serious knee injury that limited him to just three appearances.

Showing immense resilience, the 24-year-old Netherlands international made a superb comeback last season, featuring 48 times across all competitions and firmly establishing himself as a vital component of Mikel Arteta's squad.

His impressive form has continued into the current campaign, where he has started all 11 of Arsenal's Premier League matches, cementing the right-back position as his own ahead of teammate Ben White.

Lauren's Glowing Endorsement

Lauren, who spoke to Metro via FIRST.com, highlighted Timber's remarkable mental fortitude. 'First of all, he has proved his mental strength in order to get back to the highest level,' the former Gunner stated. 'He’s come from the shadow and then perform the way he did.'

The praise extended to Timber's technical abilities on the pitch. 'Secondly, in the pitch he’s been absolutely brilliant, especially in bringing the ball out from the back,' Lauren said, emphasising a skill crucial to Arsenal's style of play.

Lauren also pinpointed the formidable connection between Timber and Bukayo Saka on the right flank as a key asset for the team. 'I believe that the connection between Timber and Saka has been absolutely brilliant,' he remarked, explaining how their interplay creates space and attacking opportunities.

Bright Future and North London Derby Focus

Looking ahead, Lauren expressed his belief that Arsenal have a long-term solution in the full-back position. 'The boy has been brilliant. And there’s more to come. He’s young, so we’ve got a fullback for a long, very long time, that’s for sure.'

Despite a recent injury scare while on international duty, Timber is expected to be fit to start in the crucial North London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

Following Arsenal's disappointing draw with Sunderland before the international break, Lauren challenged his former club to show greater focus to see out games. 'We have to avoid those types of games... the fact that you are winning the game 2-1 away from home, those are the types of games you have to see out.'

He concluded that maintaining focus on their own performance, game by game, is the pathway to achieving the ultimate goal: winning the Premier League title.
