Wrestler's Fiery Proposal Stunt Backfires as Girlfriend Flees Flames
AEW star's brother set on fire in marriage proposal gone wrong

In a festive season stunt that spectacularly misfired, a professional wrestler's attempt to help his brother with an incendiary marriage proposal ended with the intended bride fleeing the scene and the groom rolling on the ground in flames.

A Blazing Proposal Ends in Panic

Darby Allin, the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star renowned for his death-defying antics, documented the chaotic scene on Instagram on December 27, 2025. The 32-year-old thrill-seeker literally set his brother on fire as a prelude to the big question.

In the video, after being ignited, the brother drops to one knee, presents a ring to his partner, and pops the question. The reaction, however, was far from the embrace he might have envisioned. Instead of accepting, the woman is seen laughing nervously before quickly handing a fire extinguisher to Darby and sprinting out of the frame.

The wrestling daredevil was forced to step in and help his sibling, who was rolling on the ground to douse the flames. Darby captioned the post: ‘MARRIAGE PROPOSAL GONE WRONG. My brother wanted me to light him on fire and he asked his girlfriend to marry him. she got cold feet and took off running instead of putting him out with the fire extinguisher.’ He added wryly, ‘Maybe it wasn’t to be…..’

A Life Lived on the Edge: Concussions and Everest

For Darby Allin, whose career is built on extreme risk, this fiery fiasco is just another chapter. The former TNT Champion, who once was thrown down a half-pipe in a body bag, has previously opened up about the most severe injury of his career.

Speaking exclusively to Metro in 2024, he revealed a 2017 concussion was the most painful experience. ‘I would rather break anything than have your brain be messed up,’ he stated. The injury occurred during an independent show where he dove from the ring onto concrete, smashing his head and convulsing. Despite the trauma, he finished the match, which ended with a top-rope Power Bomb, before being hospitalised with bleeding on the brain.

Earlier in 2025, Allin took a hiatus from AEW to pursue another monumental challenge: climbing Mount Everest. His first attempt was delayed after he broke his foot and was then hit by a bus. Before that stalled endeavour, he told Metro about the mindset required: ‘The first thing that the trainer told me... was, “Are you afraid to die?” I’m like, “No.”’ He added, ‘I’ve lived more in the last year than people have in their whole lives.’

The All-In Family Tradition of Daredevilry

This latest incident proves that a taste for extreme danger runs in the family. While Darby's exploits include jumping over his house in a jeep and diving off a 92-foot waterfall, his brother clearly shares a similar appetite for high-stakes spectacle, albeit with romantic intentions. The proposal stunt, however, serves as a stark reminder that even the best-laid plans can go up in smoke—quite literally—when fire and emotions are involved.
