British teenage skateboarding sensation Sky Brown has reclaimed her position as world champion, securing victory at the Skateboarding World Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The 17-year-old, who previously won the title at just 14 years old, described her latest achievement as "huge" while expressing gratitude for the win.
Weather-Shortened Competition in Brazil
The women's park finals in Sao Paulo faced significant challenges from adverse weather conditions, with recurrent rainfall causing delays throughout the competition. Organizers made the difficult decision to conclude the event after only two of the planned four runs when additional rain made the skate bowl unsafe for competitors.
"The level is crazy. I had to put a lot down to get here, but I am definitely bummed that we couldn't fully do a final," Brown told World Skate following her victory. Despite the shortened format, officials declared Brown the winner based on her commanding lead of nearly four points.
Impressive Performance and Emotional Victory
Brown finished with an impressive score of 88.16 points, comfortably ahead of Japan's Mizuho Hasegawa who took silver with 84.36 points. American skater Minna Stess claimed bronze with 83.90 points. The British champion celebrated her win with father Stewart Brown, a former skateboarder himself.
"This feels huge and I'm so thankful," Brown said during her emotional celebration. She added a poignant reflection on global events, stating: "There are bigger things and I just pray for peace for the world."
