The chief executive of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games has made a definitive statement that commercial sponsors have not expressed any reservations about Casey Wasserman continuing as chair, despite his recent appearance in the Jeffrey Epstein-related document releases.
Sponsor Meetings Proceed Without Mention of Controversy
Speaking publicly for the first time since emails between Wasserman and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell were disclosed by the US Justice Department, LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover provided unequivocal backing for the embattled chair. Hoover revealed that during recent meetings with potential sponsors, the topic was not even raised as a point of discussion.
"I was at a meeting in Dallas with a potential sponsor – and we are hopeful about securing their partnership – and the matter simply did not come up," Hoover stated emphatically. "No one is asking about it. The focus remains entirely on the Olympic preparations and commercial opportunities."
Board Support Remains Firm Despite Political Pressure
While Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass recently called for Wasserman's resignation, the LA28 board has consistently reaffirmed their support for his continued leadership. Wasserman has already initiated proceedings to sell his global agency bearing his name following the document releases, though there is no suggestion he committed any crime and he has denied having any personal or business relationship with Epstein.
"That's her opinion," Hoover responded regarding Mayor Bass's position. "But she also acknowledged that the LA28 board has taken a position and is supporting Casey, so there's nothing more to really be said on the matter. The board has taken their position – they support him and I support him."
Record-Breaking Commercial Success Continues
The LA28 organizing committee has achieved remarkable commercial success, already reaching approximately 80 percent of its ambitious $2.5 billion revenue target from sponsors. Major partners include global brands such as Google, Starbucks, Delta Air Lines, Nike, and Honda.
"We've got a great leadership team here at LA28. Just look at the results," Hoover emphasized. "We've exceeded all expectations, we've broken all Olympic records by any measure. If that doesn't give people confidence, I don't know what will."
Private Funding Model and Future Partnerships
Unlike most Olympic Games that receive substantial public funding, LA28 operates entirely through private financing, making its commercial success particularly significant. Hoover confirmed that the organization is preparing to announce another top-tier sponsor in the near future, indicating continued momentum despite the recent controversy.
The CEO's comments represent a strong vote of confidence in both Wasserman's leadership and the overall stability of the LA28 organizing committee as preparations intensify for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
