Man Pleads Guilty to 13-Year Drugging and Rape of Wife

A man has admitted to a horrifying 13-year campaign of drugging and raping his wife, with his former spouse watching as he entered his guilty pleas in court.

Guilty Pleas Entered in Winchester Crown Court

Philip Young, aged 49, formerly of Swindon but now residing in Enfield, pleaded guilty to a catalogue of serious sexual offences at Winchester Crown Court on Friday. The proceedings took 27 minutes as he admitted to 48 of the 56 charges brought against him.

Details of the Offences

The charges span from 2010 to 2023 and include:

  • 11 counts of rape
  • 11 counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy
  • 14 counts of voyeurism
  • 7 counts of assault by penetration
  • 4 counts of sexual assault
  • 1 count of publishing obscene articles

Young's now former wife, Joanne Young, aged 48, was present in the courtroom to witness the pleas. She had previously waived her right to anonymity in connection with the case and was supported by her sister and a member of witness support.

Additional Defendants in Related Cases

Five other men also appeared in court on Friday, charged with sexual offences against Ms Young. Their cases are proceeding separately:

  • Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, pleaded not guilty to one count of rape.
  • Richard Wilkins, 61, of Swindon, Wiltshire, pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and one charge of assault by penetration.
  • Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed abode, has yet to enter a plea to a charge of assault by penetration.
  • Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Swindon, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
  • Mohammed Hassan, 37, of Swindon, pleaded not guilty to sexual touching.

The court proceedings highlight a complex and distressing case of prolonged abuse, with multiple defendants now facing justice.
