Tributes have poured in for a 28-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in Clerkenwell, as detectives launched a murder investigation and urged witnesses to come forward.
Reece Salmon was discovered with stab wounds in Lloyd Baker Street, an upmarket Georgian terrace in Islington occasionally dubbed 'Millionaires' Row', just before midnight on Wednesday. He was rushed to hospital but tragically died the next day.
Police response and family tribute
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were called to the location at 11.20pm following reports of a stabbing. No arrests have been made at this stage. Mr Salmon's family have been notified of his death and are receiving support from specially trained officers, according to The Mirror.
In a statement, Mr Salmon's family said: "We are utterly devastated by this loss. Reece was a loving partner and son, and he leaves behind many friends and loved ones. It is impossible to put our loss into words."
Location and tributes
Lloyd Baker Street, flanked by Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses, is considered amongst Clerkenwell's most desirable residential streets. Floral tributes have been placed at the location by relatives and friends in remembrance of Mr Salmon.
Detectives have opened a murder investigation into the attack and implemented enhanced stop-and-search powers throughout the vicinity as the hunt for those responsible intensifies. The Section 60 order permits officers to stop and search members of the public without the standard requirement of reasonable grounds for suspicion. It was active across the Caledonian Road, Clerkenwell and Hoxton areas from 4pm on Friday through to 6am on Saturday.
Appeal for information
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who oversees policing in the borough, said: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young man who has lost his life. You can expect to see additional officers in the area providing visible reassurance and working with partners to keep the public safe. The victim was found in a residential street, and members of the public may have information of vital importance to our investigation. If you can help, please come forward."
