Three pensioners have been arrested as part of a major investigation into historic child sexual abuse at care homes in Bradford.
Arrests Made Across the Country
Two men, aged 83 and 86, and an 83-year-old woman were detained by police on Tuesday. The arrests took place at separate addresses in Cumbria and Kent, demonstrating the wide-reaching nature of the inquiry.
All three individuals have since been released on bail while detectives continue their investigations into allegations that span several decades.
Victims Come Forward After Decades
The investigation was launched after eight victims bravely came forward to report suffering cruelty and sexual abuse when they were children. The offences are said to have occurred when the victims were aged between just five and seventeen years old.
The abuse reportedly took place during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s while the children were residing in local authority care homes across Bradford.
Locations of the Alleged Abuse
Police have confirmed that the investigation focuses on two specific facilities, both of which have now closed. The homes in question are:
- Burley in Wharfedale Assessment Centre on Station Road
- Brunswick Road Children's care home on Brunswick Road
Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Greenbank of Bradford District Police emphasised the force's commitment to tackling such crimes, stating: "Protecting and safeguarding children is a top priority for West Yorkshire Police and this operation forms part of our ongoing commitment to investigate both current and non-recent sexual offences against children."
She described child sexual abuse as "an abhorrent crime" that affects "some of the most vulnerable people in our society."
Appeal for Further Information
Authorities are urging anyone with information about incidents at these locations to contact them. Detective Chief Inspector Greenbank added: "We would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, no matter where or when it took place, to report it to the police. You will be listened to and you will be believed."
Information can be provided to West Yorkshire Police by calling 101. The force has reassured potential victims that they will be treated with sensitivity and their allegations will be taken seriously, regardless of how much time has passed since the events occurred.
