Murder Probe After Woman Dies in Hounslow House Fire

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a 48-year-old woman died in a house fire in Hounslow that police believe was deliberately started. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to a residential address on Berkley Avenue at 1:14am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following reports of a fire.

Eight Hospitalised, One in Life-Threatening Condition

In addition to the woman who died, eight other people were taken to hospital with injuries. The Metropolitan Police stated that a 40-year-old woman remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition. The remaining seven individuals—six men and one woman—have been discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Police attended the scene alongside the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the 48-year-old woman later died in hospital. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, according to the Met.

Police Believe Fire Was Deliberately Set

Initial reports suggest the fire was believed to have been deliberately started. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time, as well as everyone who has been injured. Our enquiries are progressing at pace as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire, which we believe may have been started deliberately.”

DCI John described the incident as an “isolated incident” but acknowledged it will cause concern within the local community. He added: “Officers will remain in the area throughout the day, and we will provide updates as our investigation continues.”

No Arrests Made Yet, Appeal for Information

With the probe in its early stages, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information that may prove helpful, such as CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage, to contact them.
