In a remarkable turn of events that has stunned West Yorkshire police, a Bradford man who vanished five years ago has walked into a police station alive and well, just days after officers arrested five people on suspicion of his murder.
The Mysterious Disappearance
Ismail Ali, who was 46 when he went missing in 2020, was last seen at his workplace in the Lidget Green area of Bradford on Friday 29 May. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a red hooded top, black trousers and dark footwear.
His case had been the subject of multiple police appeals over the past five years, with authorities expressing growing concern for his welfare. The investigation took a dramatic turn this week when police announced they believed Ali was "no longer alive" and may have been murdered.
The Arrests and Unexpected Reappearance
Earlier this week, West Yorkshire police made a significant breakthrough in the case, arresting three women and two men on suspicion of Ali's murder. The force conducted searches at three properties following Monday's arrests and seized a large amount of cash.
However, in an astonishing development on Wednesday, Ismail Ali himself walked into a police station reporting that he was "safe and well". Detectives are now working to understand the full circumstances surrounding his five-year disappearance.
Ongoing Investigation and Family Notification
West Yorkshire police confirmed that Ali's family have been notified of his safe return. In their statement, the force said: "Mr Ali's family have been notified that he has been found safe and well and is being safeguarded whilst necessary checks are being made."
Despite Ali's reappearance, the investigation continues. Several of those arrested earlier this week remain on bail for suspected money laundering offences, and police inquiries are ongoing.
The force expressed gratitude to the public, stating: "Officers would like to thank members of the public who shared the appeal for Mr Ali." The case continues to raise numerous questions about what exactly happened during Ali's five-year absence from Bradford.
