In a significant week-long crackdown, Kilburn police have seized more than 1,000 suspected stolen mobile phones, 74 illegal e-bikes, and two machetes, resulting in over 40 arrests. The Metropolitan Police deployed over 50 officers to Kilburn High Road for enhanced patrols, aiming to disrupt criminal networks and enhance community safety.
Major Seizures and Arrests in Kilburn Operation
The operation targeted various criminal activities across Kilburn. From a corner shop, officers confiscated at least 1,000 mobile phones believed to be stolen, found hidden behind a padlocked door. Four men, aged between 22 and 63, were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and possession with intent to supply drugs.
Weapons and Drug-Related Seizures
In a separate incident, two machetes measuring over 50cm were recovered from a barbershop on the high street, leading to two arrests. Additionally, a traffic stop resulted in three arrests and the seizure of 74 items, including a van linked to drug dealing. Nitrous oxide cannisters valued at more than £3,000 were also confiscated during the operation.
Police Statement on Community Impact
Inspector Yu Zhang, who led the operation, emphasized the crackdown's effectiveness. "This crackdown has seen drugs, weapons, and dangerous illegal e-bikes taken off the streets," he said. "We know these offences are ones that our communities care about, and they want to see officers taking robust action."
Zhang added, "We have done exactly that. This week-long operation will disrupt the criminal networks in Kilburn, ensuring the area is undoubtedly safer for the community. This builds on the work we have already been doing in the North West, with neighbourhood crime cut by 6.4 per cent over the last year."
Overall Arrests and Broader Context
In total, 45 people were arrested for offences including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of offensive weapons, and shoplifting. Eight additional weapons were taken into evidence. The Metropolitan Police noted that in 2025, officers recovered 2,894 knives and 3,750 weapons, marking a 75 per cent increase from the previous year.
This operation underscores the police's ongoing efforts to combat crime in Kilburn and the wider North West area, focusing on reducing weapon-related incidents and drug trafficking. The seizures and arrests highlight the scale of criminal activity being addressed through targeted police actions.
