Meyers and Kimmel Mock Trump’s Inflation and Birthday Party

Late-night hosts Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump this week, criticizing his response to rising inflation, his claims about an Iran peace deal, and his upcoming UFC-themed birthday party sponsored by Monster Energy drinks.

Seth Meyers on Trump’s Broken Promises

On Late Night, Seth Meyers reminded viewers that Trump ran on a pro-peace platform during the 2024 campaign. Meyers noted that being pro-peace is not a bonus feature for a president but an expectation. However, in his second term, Trump has attacked one out of every 13 countries on Earth, leading Meyers to joke that Trump might have been misunderstood as an “8-piece candidate,” showing a picture of him enjoying KFC.

Meyers said that Trump lied repeatedly during his campaign, even though he now denies it. “You said it all the fucking time!” Meyers exclaimed. Trump now claims he is “doing everything he can now to stop the war in Iran that he started,” and that a deal is near. Meyers added that gas prices are so high that he “had to learn to ride a unicycle.”

Even Fox News sycophants have begun questioning Trump’s Iran peace deal claims. Meyers said Trump has alleged being close to fixing things “more times than HBO has rebranded.” Another broken promise was lowering prices and ending inflation on day one, but inflation is now higher than under Joe Biden. When asked, Trump said, “I love the inflation.” Meyers responded, “I thought you were gonna end it? I can’t think of a more tone-deaf thing for a president to say.”

Meyers concluded that Trump “lies so easily” and his presidency has been a “bait and switch.” “The idea that Trump would ever keep one of his promises is ludicrous,” he said.

Jimmy Kimmel on Trump’s Birthday and Elon Musk

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host joked about Wednesday’s NBA game in New York, saying he hadn’t seen so many celebrities jump out of their seats since Will Smith at the Oscars. He noted Larry David was happy, calling it extremely rare.

Kimmel also discussed the start of the World Cup in the US, but said fewer overseas visitors are coming because “everyone in the world hates us right now” as Trump has “made a mess of pretty much every place, especially the Middle East.” The war has been ongoing for 15 weeks, and Trump is comparing it to Vietnam, claiming he would have ended it in a few months “had I not dodged it and they put me in charge.”

Kimmel turned to Elon Musk’s SpaceX IPO, which would make Musk the first trillionaire. He called Musk “one of the weirdest people we’ve ever seen on this planet” and joked that his riches will make “your parents Walmart greeters.” Kimmel noted that Musk came to the US as the “son of a humble emerald mine owner” and that Tesla paid almost no federal income tax over the past three years. “For a guy who has been openly cheering immigrants getting kicked out of the country for stealing from us, he sure seems like an immigrant who’s been stealing from us to me,” Kimmel said.

This weekend is Trump’s 80th birthday, making him the oldest president and allegedly the healthiest “at least according to the doctors he paid to say that.” He will have a “big MMA-themed birthday party” with a UFC game on the White House lawn, despite a 46% chance of rain. “If God wanted the White House to be struck by lightning, that would have happened 18 months ago,” Kimmel said. The event is sponsored by Monster Energy drinks, and Kimmel showed viewers the garish setup. “Could there be a better metaphor for this administration than a giant Monster energy logo on the White House lawn?” he asked.
