UN Inquiry Finds Israel Guilty of Genocide Against Palestinian Children
A United Nations inquiry has concluded that Israel continues to commit genocide by deliberately targeting Palestinian children in Gaza. The report, released by the UN Commission of Inquiry, details systematic attacks on children, including airstrikes on schools, hospitals, and residential areas.
According to the inquiry, over 5,000 Palestinian children have been killed since October 2023, with thousands more injured or displaced. The commission cited evidence of intentional targeting, including the use of explosive weapons in densely populated areas and the denial of humanitarian aid.
Deliberate Targeting and International Law Violations
The report highlights that Israel's actions constitute a violation of the Genocide Convention, which prohibits acts committed with intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. The commission noted that children are particularly vulnerable and that their targeting is a clear indicator of genocidal intent.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese stated, "The scale of atrocities against children in Gaza is unprecedented. This is not collateral damage; it is deliberate annihilation."
International Response and Calls for Accountability
The inquiry has sparked international outrage, with human rights organizations urging the International Criminal Court to investigate. The UN has called for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid.
Israel has rejected the findings, calling them biased and politically motivated. However, the UN maintains that the evidence is overwhelming and that accountability is essential to prevent further atrocities.
