A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a man in his 60s was stabbed multiple times while walking near a golf course in Stafford. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 14, in the Castlefields area, prompting an emergency response. The victim was found with several stab wounds and remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The alleged attack is believed to have been unprovoked, with the victim reportedly stabbed from behind. The suspect, a 17-year-old Bulgarian national, faces a charge of attempted murder and is scheduled to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre later today. He has also been separately charged with theft from a shop.
Staffordshire Police have urged the public to avoid speculation, assumptions, or public commentary about the case while legal proceedings are ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald described the arrest as a significant development in the investigation, which continues at pace with a range of specialist resources dedicated to it.
Fitzgerald stated: 'The victim remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition. His family are being supported by our family liaison officers. The response from the community has been invaluable with lots of people sharing information and CCTV footage. However, I must ask people not to use AI or other software to enhance any of the images we have shared. It is incredibly harmful to our investigation, particularly when arrests have been made and legal proceedings are active.'
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to gather evidence. The community's cooperation has been highlighted as crucial in advancing the case.
