The Metropolitan Police has conducted an internal investigation into five officers from its Royalty and Specialist Protection command following allegations of misogynistic behaviour. A female staff member at Kensington Palace reportedly filed an official complaint over a series of inappropriate comments made between August 2023 and September 2024. The complaint was officially lodged in October 2024.
Alleged Comments and Investigation
According to The Sun, one officer allegedly remarked that Kensington Palace was "full of little Hitlers." A Met spokesperson stated that the reported behaviour falls "below the high standards expected of officers." However, the internal investigation did not find the behaviour met the threshold for misconduct. Instead, the officers received "reflective practice" to consider their actions and identify learning for the future.
Removal of Palace Access
Senior Royal Household staff reportedly decided to prevent the officers from working at any palaces in the future by removing their access passes. The Met emphasized its commitment to ensuring all officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism to build trust and confidence with those they serve.
Separate Investigation at Windsor Castle
In a related development, police officers protecting the royal family at Windsor Castle are facing an investigation over allegations they slept while on duty. Several officers from the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection team are under scrutiny after concerns were raised, including leaving posts unattended and sleeping on duty.
The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) has launched an investigation, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been informed. A decision on whether any officers should be placed on restrictive duties is expected before the end of next week.
