A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed after sending pictures of his penis from his work-issued phone to a woman he met online. The officer, identified only as 'Special Constable A', sent messages of an explicit and sexual nature between September 8 and September 16 last year.
Details of the Case
The officer admitted to sending the images of his genitals to the woman. A disciplinary hearing found that this did not constitute appropriate use of a work phone. The officer claimed he suffered from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) at the time, but the panel found no evidence that OCD affected his behaviour or that his mental health contributed to his actions.
Panel Chair Commander Paul Trevers stated: "In the absence of anything from the officer as to why his case is exceptional, I find that the appropriate outcome is dismissal without notice and that the Officer’s name be added to the barred list."
Similar Case
This incident follows a recent case where another Met Police officer, PS Nicholas Bolton, was sacked for saving sexual images on his work phone. Bolton's behaviour was flagged in 2024 after an intelligence report suggested he had recorded sexually explicit images. A forensic examination of his phone in July 2024 uncovered nine photos, including images of a woman in lingerie and other nude poses. The woman had sent the photos via Instagram's view-once setting, meaning Bolton compromised her wishes by saving them.
These cases highlight the Metropolitan Police's strict stance on inappropriate use of work devices and the consequences for officers who breach trust.
