Man, 60, Dies After Maida Vale Assault, Murder Investigation Begins

A 60-year-old man has died more than a week after he was taken to hospital following an assault in north-west London. Michalis Kyriacou was found with severe injuries by officers on patrol in Chippenham Road, Maida Vale, at 2.40am on May 14. He died from his injuries on Friday, eight days later.

Suspect Charged

Biniam Tewolde Negash, 36, who was known to the victim, was arrested and charged with attempted murder on May 17. Negash, of Chippenham Road, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the next day where he was remanded in custody. The Crown Prosecution Service has been informed that Mr Kyriacou has died, and charges are expected to be upgraded.

Police Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, of the Met’s specialist crime command, said: ‘Our thoughts are with Michalis’ family and friends following this tragic news. We also want to reassure the local community that specialist officers are working hard to put together an exact picture of what took place.’
