Matt Prokop, the actor best known for his role in Disney's High School Musical 3, has been taken into custody in Texas on serious charges including possession of child pornography. The 35-year-old former child star was arrested on Christmas Eve and is being held at the Victoria County Jail.
Details of the Arrest and Charges
According to reports from People magazine and TMZ, Prokop faces a second-degree felony charge for possession of child pornography. This charge followed the signing of a warrant to search his home, as confirmed by local publication Crossroads Today.
In addition to this serious charge, Prokop was booked on four misdemeanour counts. These include one count of violating a bond related to 2024 charges, one count of evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest, search, or transportation.
A Troubled History and Past Relationship
Prokop is also recognised for his role opposite his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, in the 2011 Disney film Geek Charming. The pair, both now 35, ended their relationship in 2014.
That split came after Hyland, the star of Modern Family, obtained a restraining order against Prokop. She had accused him of domestic abuse, alleging he choked her during an argument—allegations she first made public in 2014. It is understood that Hyland was supported by her on-screen mother, actress Julie Bowen, in leaving the relationship.
Current Status and Ongoing Case
The arrest occurred on 24 December 2025, with the news breaking publicly in early January 2026. Prokop remains in custody as the legal process begins.
