In a shocking turn of events next week on Emmerdale, Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) finds himself accused of being the village arsonist. However, the real reason behind his suspicious behavior is utterly heartbreaking.
Kammy's Suspicious Actions
This week, Kammy left viewers puzzled when his mood suddenly shifted at the garage. He arrived late, facing Aaron Dingle's (Danny Miller) anger for not pulling his weight. Normally cheerful, Kammy appeared visibly troubled. He also distanced himself from Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) when she suggested meeting his family, making excuses to avoid spending time with her.
In the coming days, Aaron and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) remain determined to find the barn firestarter. Kammy stays on their suspect list due to his evasive behavior whenever the topic arises.
The Arrest
As revealed in a new teaser clip, Aaron and Robert believe they have caught Kammy red-handed when they find him in a field carrying a petrol can and a lighter. They accuse him of being the firestarter, and Kammy is horrified. In a devastating moment, he reveals he was planning to torch his own car. Despite this, Kammy is taken away in a police car.
Shebz Miah on Kammy's Story
Discussing the upcoming scenes, Shebz Miah said: 'He's not had an easy ride, and all of this is bringing back a lot of unpleasant memories for him. And it's just one of those things where, because he's got no one, he's got no leg to stand on. And I think it's that right person, wrong time thing, and he sort of accepts it, but it's just one voice against the rest of the village, and there's nothing you can do about that, unfortunately. But I also imagine it's not the first time that Kammy has been in a position like that. He has been against the majority quite often before.'
The Truth Revealed
Scenes airing next week will rule Kammy out as the firestarter, as it is revealed that he is unhoused and sleeping in one of the barns on Emmerdale Farm. His change in tone stems from his fear that his makeshift home will be destroyed.
Producer's Insight
Producer Sophie Roper commented on Kammy's storyline: 'This storyline is a vital look at hidden homelessness, showing that people can be living on the edge of society, sleeping in their vehicle or barns, while still successfully holding down a job and maintaining relationships. For many reasons, a person's circumstances can change dramatically and we wanted to challenge the perception of what homelessness looks like and prove that what people present to the outside world isn't necessarily the whole story. We hope this narrative encourages our viewers to look closer and remember that things are not always quite as they seem.'
