Mackenzie Boyd's world has been shattered after Charity Dingle admitted to a series of devastating secrets, including an affair with Ross Barton, the truth about baby Leyla, and her rape by Doctor Caitlin Todd.
In Tuesday's episode of Emmerdale, Charity gathered the courage to confess everything after a conversation with newcomer Serena Sugden. Serena convinced Charity that honesty was the only way forward, as keeping secrets was destroying her. Despite her terror, Charity knew Serena was right.
Charity's confessions leave Mack reeling
Charity told Mack she had things 'rotting' inside her and began by revealing she slept with Ross Barton last year, which started her web of lies. She then disclosed that baby Leyla is not actually Sarah and Jacob Sugden's child. Mack was distraught and overwhelmed by the barrage of bad news.
At one point, Mack left the house and nearly told Sarah about Leyla, but returned to Jacobs Fold and confessed to Charity he couldn't do it. However, the revelations were not over.
The shocking truth about Dr Todd
Charity alluded to another secret and revealed she was raped. Mack assumed the attacker was a man, but was staggered when Charity confirmed it was Doctor Caitlin Todd. Charity also revealed that Doctor Todd had been blackmailing her.
After sharing everything that had been eating away at her, Charity didn't know how to move forward. Mackenzie told Charity he can still hate her for everything she's done, but also recognises she needs his support. He sat beside her and said that while Sarah needs to know about Leyla, their focus must be on Doctor Todd for now. He insisted the police need to know about Caitlin's blackmail.
Charity fears the consequences
Charity is terrified to tell DS Reid because it increases the chance of others finding out about Leyla. Despite this fear, she knows she must share the information to increase the chance of Doctor Todd being convicted. Everything has changed between her and Mackenzie, but with Sarah and Jacob still in the dark about Leyla, and Ross unaware that Mack knows, this nightmare is far from over.
