Coronation Street fans are convinced that Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) will discover her mother Sarah's (Tina O'Brien) murderous secret and report her to the police, potentially sending Sarah to prison for killing Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).
Actress Teases Controversial Plot
Earlier this year, Lucy Fallon, 30, hinted at drama for her alter-ego Bethany, admitting viewers may end up disliking the character. Speaking at the Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse, Fallon said: 'She does! I can't tell you what it is, but it's not going to be great. I don't think people are going to be happy about it. This one is low-key her fault. Everyone is going to be like, 'She is a d**k.' Which is fine.'
When asked if she was hesitant to play a villainous role, Fallon added: 'I don't mind what it is as long as it's a good one. Being in the Platts is a good family to be in. It's an amazing honour to get a storyline, I don't take it for granted at all.'
Sarah's Murder Revealed
This week on the ITV soap, it was confirmed that Sarah killed evil Theo. During a showdown, Sarah attacked Theo with a metal pole, causing him to fall from scaffolding to his death. Gary Windass (Mikey North) has known the truth all along, and both are desperate to keep the secret hidden—though that's nearly impossible in Weatherfield.
Fans took to social media platform X to share theories. User Mitch posted: 'Bethany has a storyline coming up that's gonna make the fans hate her…. What if she finds out Sarah killed Theo and for some reason decides to tell the police and it sends Sarah to prison.' Another user replied: 'That's a good theory.' A third echoed: 'anyone else concerned that the thing bethany does that lufal says people will hate her for is gonna be linked to sarah and the theo situation.'
Other Theories Surface
Some fans speculate that Sarah's partner Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) may grow closer to Bethany, potentially sparking an affair. Both theories align with Fallon's teasers, but the true plot remains unconfirmed.
Actress Tina O'Brien previously discussed the reveal, saying: 'There was a lot of debate in the green room as soon as we were told there was going to be a murderer. A lot of people were playing Cluedo… I just was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer, and then hopefully, however it plays out, I'll enjoy Sarah's arc.' She added: 'I've literally been a big bag of nerves! It's really hard having to keep it quiet for that long, especially when you're online, you're seeing all the chat on social media.'
