True crime drama enthusiasts are in for a gripping evening as Channel 4 premieres 'Vengeance: Murder on the Heath' tonight, Sunday, May 24, at 9pm. The two-part series delves into a 'shocking' case involving a love triangle that culminated in murder.
The Case Behind the Drama
The series focuses on the 2011 killing of 21-year-old Gagandip Singh, a talented television entrepreneur and Sikh community influencer. Singh was murdered by Harvinder 'Ravi' Shoker, with Mundill Mahil, the woman both men were pursuing, playing a pivotal role. Drawing on police interviews, texts, and court documents, the drama reconstructs the events leading to Singh's death.
Events Leading to the Murder
According to Channel 4, Singh had cultivated a close friendship with 19-year-old medical student Mundill Mahil. However, Mahil accused Singh of sexually assaulting her when he arrived unannounced at her Brighton student house. After she managed to push him away, Singh pleaded for forgiveness. Mahil confided in Ravi, who was also in love with her, and together they devised a plan to lure Singh back to the student house to 'teach him a lesson.'
After a vicious beating left Singh unconscious, he was placed in the boot of his sister's Mercedes and driven to Blackheath, where the car was set on fire. A post-mortem revealed that Singh was alive when the car was ignited but died from inhaling toxic fumes.
Court Characterization and Cast
At trial, Mahil was portrayed as a 'manipulative' and 'ruthless' young woman, dubbed 'the Sikh Virgin' at the center of a 'twisted love triangle' seeking retribution, even though she was not present during the attack. The cast includes Sasha Desouza-Willock as Mahil, Dee Ahluwalia as Singh, and Ikky Kabir as Shoker.
