Federal opposition leader Angus Taylor has pledged to deliver one of the biggest cuts to immigration in Australian history, while labelling the Labor government "socialist in all but name," as he sought to rally party members six months before the New South Wales state election.
Speaking at the NSW Liberal party state council in Sydney on Saturday, Taylor acknowledged the previous coalition government's shortcomings but argued that Labor was "utterly failing the nation."
Immigration and Flag Stance
Taylor's announcement follows Labor's recent immigration plan, which includes converting a former quarantine facility into a new detention centre and preventing international students from bringing family members to Australia. Taylor said he would go further, vowing: "I will deliver one of the biggest cuts to immigration in Australian history."
He also criticised Labor politicians for standing "in front of three different flags instead of our one national flag," referring to press conferences where leaders speak with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the national flag.
Promises on Flag, Australia Day, and Gender Laws
The opposition leader promised to protect Australia's national flag and Australia Day, and to change laws regarding gender. He declared: "We will not allow the ideologues and activists to deny the truth … Under a Coalition government I lead, we will end this lunacy."
His address is part of a broader strategy to win back voters from One Nation at the NSW state election in March.
