Emmerdale's Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is in a dire situation after evil Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) discovered baby Leyla's true parentage. Charity never imagined her darkest secret would be exposed. After Charity gave birth in the hospital lift with Ross (Michael Parr) acting as midwife, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) confronted Ross in the carpark and told him to back off. Dr Todd overheard and learned that Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), the med student who filed a bullying complaint against her, is not the baby's father.
Blackmail Begins
Without hesitation, Dr Todd approached Charity in her hospital bed and began blackmailing her: either get Jacob to drop his grievance, or Todd reveals the truth. With no choice, Charity manipulated Jacob into dropping the case. But Todd won't forget this valuable information.
Jacob, a good person despite Todd's cruelty, decides to make amends on the day of her father's funeral. He offers condolences and believes his apologies are accepted. Meanwhile, Dr Todd is settling into the village. Mary (Louise Jameson) notices a spark between Todd and Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) and plays matchmaker, pushing Vanessa to ask Todd out. They set a date, creating a dangerous situation as Todd gets close to Charity's ex.
Todd's Plan
This calculating woman has a plan. She hints to Jacob that she knows a secret that could ruin his life—no bluff. Charity hears this and panics. Todd tells Vanessa she inherited her dad's house in Matlock but needs funds to move. How does she plan to earn money? By squeezing Charity for every penny. Todd warns Charity she has proof of Leyla's true parentage and demands £10,000 for silence. When Charity sees Todd kiss Vanessa, she realizes the stakes: a few wines and Vanessa's loose lips could spell disaster.
