A five-year-old girl has tragically died in hospital several days after a serious car crash that also left a boy of the same age with severe injuries. The collision occurred on the A59 junction with Strawberry Fields in Lancashire at 3:55 p.m. last Thursday, when a Skoda Karoq collided with a VW Golf.
Details of the Incident
The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 60s, and two child passengers—a girl and a boy, both aged five—sustained critical injuries. Lancashire Police confirmed that the young girl passed away in hospital on Tuesday afternoon. A police spokesman stated: 'Very sadly, the little girl died in hospital yesterday afternoon. All our thoughts are with her family at this very distressing time, and they are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.'
Ongoing Medical Care
The driver of the Skoda and the boy passenger remain in hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. The driver of the VW Golf, a man in his 20s, also suffered serious injuries and is still hospitalized. He is being treated as a witness in the ongoing investigation.
Police Appeal for Information
Sgt Laura Kendall expressed her sorrow: 'It is heartbreaking news that the little girl has passed away and my thoughts first and foremost are with her family and loved ones. My thoughts also continue to be with the three people who remain in hospital being treated for the injuries they received in this terrible collision.'
She added: 'I must stress that the investigation into the collision is ongoing, and it is still in its early stages in determining exactly what happened. We continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened – who haven’t yet contacted us – to please get in touch.'
