Brooklyn Beckham is spending his summer in the south of France aboard Sir Elton John's yacht, while his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, holiday 460 miles away in Spain, underscoring the ongoing rift within the family.
The 27-year-old, along with his wife Nicola Peltz, has been seen enjoying the Mediterranean sun with his godfather, Elton John, 79, and Elton's husband, David Furnish, 63, near Nice. The group dined together on the yacht and later strolled hand-in-hand along the seafront.
Elton John's role as peacemaker
Elton, a longtime friend of David and Victoria, has reportedly attempted to mediate the family dispute. According to a source quoted by The Sun, "Nothing has changed. That is to say, neither party has reached out to the other." The source added, "It's devastating and, of course, David and Victoria would love nothing more than for their eldest boy to be with them on holiday."
Meanwhile, Victoria, 52, and David, 51, are in Formentera with their sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, daughter Harper, 15, and Romeo's girlfriend, Kim Turnbull. The distance between the two holiday locations highlights the deep divide that has persisted for months.
Background of the feud
The tension first surfaced in 2022, around the time of Brooklyn and Nicola's wedding. The couple began distancing themselves from the Beckhams last year, missing milestone events such as David's 50th birthday and his knighthood ceremony. None of the Beckhams were invited to Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal ceremony last summer.
In January, Brooklyn publicly accused his parents of trying to "control" him, stating, "I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life." He also expressed no desire for reconciliation, saying, "I do not want to reconcile with my family."
Victoria Beckham's response
Victoria broke her silence in an April interview with the Wall Street Journal, saying, "I think that we've always – we love our children so much. We've always tried to be the best parents that we can be."
