Two Young Brothers Killed in Southern Gaza

An Israeli drone strike in southern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of two Palestinian children, according to hospital reports. The victims have been identified as Fadi Abu Assi, aged 11, and his eight-year-old brother, Goma Abu Assi.

Staff at Nasser Hospital confirmed the two brothers died when a drone struck near a school that was sheltering displaced people in the area of Beni Suhaila.

Gathering Firewood for Their Father

According to their uncle, Mohamed Abu Assi, the boys were collecting firewood for their wheelchair-bound father at the time of the attack on Saturday 29 November 2025.

He expressed his grief and outrage, stating: "They are children...what did they do? They do not have missiles or bombs, they went to gather wood for their father so he can start a fire."

At the funeral, the boys' father was seen weeping over one of his children, whose white shroud was pulled back to reveal his face.

IDF Response and Ceasefire Tensions

When contacted for comment by Sky News, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) issued a statement. They claimed that IDF troops had identified "two suspects" who crossed a designated line and conducted suspicious activities, allegedly "posing an immediate threat" to troops in the southern Gaza Strip.

The statement concluded: "Following the identification, the IAF eliminated the suspects in order to remove the threat."

This incident occurs less than two months after a 20-point peace deal, brokered by US President Donald Trump, took effect in October. In the wake of this strike, Hamas is calling on mediators to pressure Israel to stop violating the ceasefire.

Israel, which accuses Hamas of breaking the ceasefire, maintains that its strikes target militants who violate the truce. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, at least 352 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began on October 10.

The Hamas-run ministry, which does not differentiate between civilians and combatants, states the overall death toll from Israel's offensive in Gaza has now passed 70,000. While Israeli officials have questioned the accuracy of these figures, the UN has previously described the ministry's data as "credible".
