A Hampshire police station was dramatically evacuated on Saturday afternoon after a member of the public brought in a suspected unexploded bomb. Fareham Police Station saw officers and civilians swiftly removed from the building as emergency protocols were activated.
Emergency Response and Safety Measures
The incident unfolded at 1:46 pm on Saturday, November 22, when the suspicious device was presented at the station. Hampshire Constabulary immediately implemented safety measures, establishing a 100-metre security cordon around the building.
Multiple nearby premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure while specialist teams were summoned to assess the situation. The Express reported that the station remained closed throughout the operation.
Bomb Squad Intervention
The Royal Navy Ordnance Explosive Disposal team was dispatched to handle the potentially dangerous situation. Experts from the bomb squad carefully examined the device before safely removing it from the police station.
Following the successful removal of the suspected ordnance, authorities lifted the security cordon and allowed evacuees to return to the area. No injuries were reported during the incident.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed: "The Royal Navy Ordnance Explosive Disposal team attended and took the device away before the cordon was lifted." The incident has concluded without any explosion or damage to property.
