A violent confrontation unfolded in South London yesterday afternoon, resulting in multiple police officers being attacked by a man wielding axes and a large Cane Corso dog. The incident, which has sparked an attempted murder investigation, occurred on the Dickens Estate in Bermondsey.
Police Officers Hospitalized After Attack

Two officers sustained bites from a Cane Corso, a powerful and sizable breed known for its strength, while another officer was assaulted by a man brandishing multiple axes.
The man, identified as being in his 40s, was swiftly subdued with a Taser and taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. The aggressive dog was seized by authorities and transported to police kennels for safekeeping.

Stephen Coombes, 43, of Marine Street, Bermondsey, has been formally charged in connection with the incident. Coombes made an appearance at Croydon Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, where the legal proceedings against him commenced.
