Israel Strikes Gaza: Fragile Ceasefire Tested After Nine Killed
Israeli strikes hit Gaza, testing fragile ceasefire

A fragile ceasefire in Gaza is under severe pressure after the Israeli military launched a series of airstrikes on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, reportedly killing at least nine people. Israel stated the operation was a response to what it called a 'blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement'.

Details of the Airstrikes

According to local health authorities in Gaza, the violence unfolded through three separate Israeli airstrikes. The first strike hit a car in the densely populated Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza, an incident that left five people dead and several others wounded.

Shortly afterwards, the Israeli air force targeted two further locations in the central Gaza Strip. Medics on the ground reported that at least four more people were killed when two houses were struck, one in Deir Al-Balah city and another in the Nuseirat camp.

Conflicting Claims and Accusations

The Israeli military justified its actions by claiming a gunman had crossed into Israeli-held territory. It alleged the individual exploited 'the humanitarian road in the area through which humanitarian aid enters southern Gaza'.

However, a Hamas official swiftly rejected these allegations, branding them as baseless. The official called the Israeli claims an 'excuse to kill' and insisted that the Palestinian group remained committed to the ceasefire agreement that has been in place since 10th October, following the two-year Gaza war.

A Truce Under Threat

This latest outbreak of violence presents a major test for the precarious truce. Since the ceasefire began, Israel has pulled back its troops and the flow of humanitarian aid into the territory has increased. Despite this, violence has not been completely halted.

Palestinian health authorities state that Israeli forces have killed 316 people in strikes on Gaza since the truce was initiated. Conversely, Israel reports that three of its soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire began and that it has attacked scores of militants.

The situation remains highly volatile, with international observers closely monitoring whether the ceasefire can withstand this severe new strain.
