Bondi Beach Shooting: Suspect Trained with Father Before Attack, Police Reveal
Bondi Beach shooting suspect trained with father

Australian police have disclosed that the man accused of killing 15 people in the Bondi Beach shooting had undertaken tactical firearms training with his father in the weeks leading up to the attack.

Details of the Pre-Attack Training

According to a police fact sheet, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, were filmed in late October at a suspected rural location in New South Wales. The footage shows the pair "firing shotguns and moving in a tactical manner" during what authorities have described as firearms training.

Images released by New South Wales Police depict both men holding guns during this session. The revelation forms a key part of the investigation into the horrific events of 14 December 2025.

The Bondi Beach Attack

The father and son are alleged to have targeted a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Police state the assailants were armed with shotguns and also threw homemade pipe bombs and explosive devices into the crowd. Fortunately, these improvised devices failed to detonate.

The attack resulted in a devastating loss of life, with 15 people killed and 40 others injured. The victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old.

Aftermath and Charges

Sajid Akram was shot and killed by police at the scene of the Bondi Beach attack. His son, Naveed Akram, was apprehended and has since been charged with a total of 59 offences.

The charges include a terrorism-related count, reflecting the severe nature of the assault on the Jewish community event. Police also reported finding an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the suspects' vehicle.

In a poignant detail, Naveed Akram's mother informed officers she believed her husband and son were on a fishing trip. She stated that Naveed had been calling her daily from a public phone around 10.30am in the period before the attack.
