Singer Jessie J has announced she is now cancer free, exactly one year after revealing her diagnosis. The 38-year-old artist shared the emotional milestone on Instagram, telling fans she 'sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year.'
Annual Check-Up Leads to Good News
Jessie, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, was at the hospital for her yearly check-up after being diagnosed with early breast cancer last year. In a video recorded from a medical facility, she candidly told her followers: 'I'm actually s***ing myself, I'm not gonna lie.' She went on to describe the MRI procedure, noting that she has to lie on her front with her arms raised like Superman. Despite the nerves, she remained optimistic, singing 'Don't worry about a thing' and asking for positive vibes.
A Year of Battles and Triumphs
Last June, Jessie revealed to fans that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer a few months earlier. She emphasized the word 'early,' saying, 'Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word early.' After receiving the diagnosis in April 2025, she underwent numerous tests and prepared to step away from the spotlight. However, just a week later, she performed at the Capital Summertime Ball in front of 80,000 fans—a moment she later told Women's Health she feels guilty about, knowing not everyone with cancer gets that experience.
Following her diagnosis, Jessie underwent a mastectomy, which she humorously described as leaving her with 'wonky boobs' and a challenge to find clothes that fit. By the end of last year, she was back on stage, performing at the Music Industry Trust Awards in November. There, she spoke candidly about how her 'world had changed' and how facing mortality alters one's perspective: 'When death comes knocking at your door, and you kind of have to answer and f***ing kick it away, it just changes everything.'
Support from the Princess of Wales
In December, Jessie shared a touching moment with Kate Middleton at the Royal Variety Performance. Both women acknowledged the tough times they had been through and shared a hug, as Jessie recounted on Good Morning America. In April 2026, she completed her No Secrets Tour across the UK and Europe, after postponing and cancelling some dates to undergo further cancer treatment.
Jessie J's journey from diagnosis to being cancer free serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of early detection and the power of a positive outlook.
