Davina McCall's Breast Cancer Diagnosis After Lump Found on TV Set
Davina McCall diagnosed with breast cancer

Television presenter Davina McCall has shared the deeply personal news of her breast cancer diagnosis with her millions of social media followers, revealing the disease was discovered after she found a lump while working on the set of ITV's The Masked Singer.

A Discovery on Set and Swift Action

The 58-year-old from Wimbledon explained that she made the discovery just five weeks ago. In a candid video posted to her Instagram on November 8, McCall detailed how a sign in the toilets at the studio for ITV's Lorraine prompted her to be more vigilant about checking herself. She noticed a lump in her breast that seemed to come and go, but one morning saw it clearly in the mirror and decided to seek medical advice.

A subsequent biopsy confirmed it was breast cancer, leading to a lumpectomy procedure nearly three weeks ago to remove the tumour. McCall shared the positive news that the surgery was a success, with clear margins and no spread to her lymph nodes.

A Positive Prognosis and a Message of Vigilance

McCall emphasised how fortunate she was that the cancer was detected at a very early stage. "It was very, very small so I got it very, very early which is incredibly lucky," she told her followers. Her treatment plan now involves a short course of radiotherapy in January, which she described as an "insurance policy" to prevent any recurrence.

The TV host did not shy away from discussing her initial emotional turmoil, admitting, "I was very angry when I found out but I let go of that and I feel in a much more positive place now." She expressed immense gratitude to the staff at west London's Royal Marsden Hospital, her children, and her fiancé, Michael Douglas, for their support.

Her powerful public message was one of proactive health. McCall urged women to perform regular self-checks, not to postpone scheduled mammograms, and to follow up with ultrasounds if needed, especially if they have dense breast tissue like herself. She had a mammogram in August but had been postponing the accompanying ultrasound.

Overwhelming Support and Past Health Challenges

The announcement prompted an immediate outpouring of support from famous friends and colleagues in the comment section of her post. Well-wishers included Amanda Holden, Gabby Logan, and DJ Fat Tony, all sending their love.

This health scare comes almost a year after the former Big Brother host underwent successful neurosurgery for a rare benign brain tumour, a colloid cyst, with recent scans showing no sign of its return.
