Jennifer Tilly Rumored to Join 'The White Lotus' Season 4
Following the unexpected departure of Helena Bonham Carter from HBO's The White Lotus, a new rumor suggests that horror icon Jennifer Tilly is in negotiations to replace her. The 67-year-old actress, best known for her role as Tiffany Valentine in the Chucky franchise, is reportedly being considered for the fourth season, which is set in the South of France.
The rumor was first shared by celebrity gossip page Deux Moi, which received an anonymous email stating: "Jennifer Tilly is in negotiations to replace Helena Bonham Carter in the White Lotus Season 4. Announcement should be made week of May 4th if all goes well!" The email's subject line read "White Lotus Shakeup." While the source cannot be verified, Deux Moi commented that the casting would be "genius if true."
Fan Reactions
Fans of the Chucky star have expressed enthusiasm for the potential casting. Instagram user @Mesnarky wrote, "This would be iconic!!" while @sjeaats claimed it would make a "perfect cast." Another fan, @blackeyedkatieb, urged the show to "give the people what they want!"
Jennifer Tilly's Career
Jennifer Tilly, 67, gained a cult following for her role as Tiffany Valentine in the Chucky franchise. She earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway and has voiced Bonnie Swanson on Family Guy. Beyond acting, Tilly is a professional poker player and a fixture on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Helena Bonham Carter's Exit
On April 25, HBO confirmed to Deadline that Helena Bonham Carter was leaving the series. A spokesperson stated: "With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set. The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won't get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon."
Reports of a clash with actress Sandra Bernhard were denied by Bonham Carter's team, who said the pair had never met.
Theory: Could It Be Part of the Plot?
Metro's TV Reporter Charlotte Minter has a theory: "Previous series of The White Lotus have seen wealthy characters suffer meltdowns. Could Bonham Carter's exit be an elaborate move from creator Mike White, woven into the plot? Season 4 takes place during the Cannes Film Festival, and the cast is expected to walk the red carpet. Perhaps it's a storyline about a scorned actress leaving set early. However, there appears to be no bad blood, so maybe that doesn't fit."
Metro has contacted Jennifer Tilly's representative and HBO for comment.
Seasons 1-3 of The White Lotus are available on Sky Atlantic.
